Rutger was a good actor who worked with great commitment and didn't take himself too seriously. For him, the Character was the thing. He was also a good man, a gentle partner on the set. We worked together in Flesh&Blood, for more than three months in Spain, and I will always remember his passionate defense of the film, of his fellow actors and of his privacy. He was breathtakingly handsome and reserved. He loved his wife Ineke , lived in his silver trailer like a lone wolf. I'm sad. ¡Hasta siempre, caballero! Marina Saura

when I heard the news, I just cried, like I'd lost a parent or a friend. I never do that when an actor passes away, although I feel sad, always. But Rutger Hauer was an icon for me in the 1980's, when I was a teenager. And he had the same age than my dad and my stepdad. And it was so sudden...

So sorry to hear of the passing of one of my most favorite actors. I will always remember you as Captain Navarre, for that is when I first met you. Rest in Peace, Rutger. May God's Peace comfort you Ineke. After fifty years, truly you were his Ladyhawke...
